What is Kata?

Students Practicing Kata (Formal Excerises)
A kata (formal exercise) is performed alone against imaginary opponents. Its purpose is to develop every aspect of Karatedo; postures, body movements, techniques and mental attitudes. The constant practice of Kata leads to a deep understanding of the techniques of Karate. The practice of Kata is most favorable to the development of the spirit and mental attitudes essential to Karate.
