What is Karate?

Students practicing Ippon Kumite (One Point Sparring)

Karate means different things to many people. It is an art form with multiple facets; self defense, sport and the art of Karate-Do. The training techniques in Karate are designed to make the body an effective instrument of protection. The body will become strengthened, become more flexible, reflexes will become quicker and general conditioning and muscle tone will improve. These are only the physical benefits of studying Karate. You must train both the mind and the body.

The art of Japanese Karate will help the practitioner become more disciplined, more able to concentrate, gain positive spirit, and become more aware of their surroundings and their own physical capabilities.

In addition, Karate is a beautiful art form that can be appreciated by all.
